Ever come across something and think "God, that's useful", and then not be able to think of a specific use? Try Apache Indice it's a database for XML files and uses XPath to construct DB queries. They provide some sample apps as java clients and a JSP/servlet Addressbook application, very nice too. We found it after a workmate was looking for a search engine that would work with XML files. Hmn, I wonder what would happen if I indexed the XML archive of my Radio blog, presumably I'd then be able to search by fields like title and date. I'm evaluating search engines for Quine at the moment, I loved the simplicity and ease of use of Perlfect Search, and SWISH-Enhanced seems better suited to advanced search use. I'm torn between whether I should try running an indexer on the live web server (but the hosting company will stop processes that take a long time to execute), or whether to tie up my laptop's processor doing the indexing, and then have the hassle of regularly uploading the index files. I always prefer to automate things and let them "run themselves", but there are always compromises in using shared hosting. 1:29:48 AM
