Buckingham palace has confirmed that at the age of 101 the Queen Mother "died peacefully in her sleep" this afternoon, Saturday 30th March 2002.
It's often forgotten that the Queen Mum, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, considered herself a Scottish woman, although not born in Scotland she was brought up here and spent many of her early years living in Glamis Castle in Tayside in later life she developed links with Caithness.
