Sidney Poitier's Honorary Award Oscar Acceptance speech also acceptance speech for best "Actress in a Leading Role" by Halle Berry - her mother is from Liverpool...do the golden lights of "Brookside" beckon :-) 10:42:46 PM
Best Actor: Denzel Washington.
I'm still having difficulty in appreciating just how long it's been since black actors/actresses have won. Halle has done for future actresses what Sidney Poitier did for Denzel. It's absurd that Denzel hasn't won before now.

Talk about making an entrance, Whoopi is lowered from the ceiling on a trapeze a la Moulin Rouge. "Security is tighter here than some of the faces". 1:41:47 AM
Kate Winslet when asked about her dress: "The comfort level is pretty good but I wouldn't like to attempt to pee right now". With immaculate timing the next music played by the TV coverage is "It's raining men" :-) 1:16:52 AM
Julia Roberts: "I'm totally discombobulated". Ooh Fancy. 12:52:53 AM

Whoopi Goldberg will be the Oscar hostess tonight. I remember a few years ago when Bryan Adams had just finished singing some soporific love song that was up for best song, the title was something like "Have you ever really loved a woman?". Whoopi turned to him and said: "If I answer that honestly...will you still be my friend" and turned back to the camera grinning from ear-to-ear :-) 12:38:23 AM
