Cheap Web Cams on QVC UK
More shopping/plastic melting. QVC are selling cheap 'n' cheerful Terratec Terracam Desktop And Notebook PC Web Camera ~£25 - I've ordered a couple, a film scanner and (another) CD burner from them all in one day. I tried before to get a transparency adapter for my existing scanner but seemingly they're no longer in production for that particular model so now I'll end up with a film scanner that costs twice the cost of my main one but whatever the cost I hope it'll be worth it. I'm desperate to get our family slides digitised, they're so precious I can't bear the thought of water/fire damage and also so we can distribute copies to our far flung relatives, some of the slides are as far back as the 1950s - we have negatives and slides but for many of them the photos themselves are long since separated from the originals and since there are several hundreds of them again I'm sure the cost of getting them processed professionally would be more than the cost of the equipment I'm buying. I've also already got a ZipCD burner but I'm not very happy with it and its pretty bulky and heavy to take on the road with the laptop. 11:53:08 PM"Web Techniques" now "New Architect"
Gonny no dae that. One of the best techie web magazines "Web Techniques" has had the builders in and it's now got the far more naff name of "New Architect" - sounds like the kind of shite meaningless name used for products at the height of .com boom. Is it just a change of name/style or is the content having a make-over too? Oh please don't ruin what was a brilliant mag. 10:21:39 PMGoogle Directory for CVS

dabs.com honours Xbox pricing error
Paying for your mistakes. Dabs coughs up the dough to compensate for an error in pricing displayed on their e-commerce site...and try to turn it into a PR coup! "Look at our customer service".. Anyway I gather that UK sales of Xbox have been less than stellar so far. Folk are still getting the best out of their Sony (2) playstations and the PCs they bought to get onto the internet. Who really wants an Xbox other than 'must have latest' yuppies? 2:21:46 AMA sure sign you're getting old is....

I wish all web developers were required to read CGI Programming on the World Wide Web By Shishir Gundavaram [1996] - it's a great introduction to the kind of things that are *possible* on the server-side and with useful working 'cookbook'-style fragments that all do common tasks or illustrate basic principles of web CGIs.

Gender stereotypes are not the primary cause of a girl's developmental issues according to therapist and author Michael Gurian, who is interviewed for this thought-provoking piece on his recent work "The Wonder of Girls." He argues for more recognition of the role of physiological influences in behavioral variations, and the article cites some intriguing variations in the anatomy and chemistry of male and female brains."
